We made the news!

Well Monday evening was interesting! I had just received word from PMSC Americorp that their mission is being terminated. I have kept quiet about all things political, because it doesn't matter. Decisions are made at a level that I, have ZERO control over. And although there have been many, many decisions made lately that affect me and my family, I have tried to remain quiet, because no one wants to hear me ramble.

But THESE particular decisions affect every single every single thing we do as an organization. Cambria County Clothing Boutique is ran by 1 individual. I Lisa Campbell, am a volunteer. I do not receive a paycheck for the endless work that I do. I receive no government funding whatsoever to help sustain, or even offset operating costs of Cambria County Clothing Boutique. I do this for the love my community, the opportunity to give in a way that no other person, or even organization has done locally. The news that our local AMERICORP unit is being terminated, I actually screamed out loud! The Cambria County Clothing Boutique is a host site for Americorp. Our mission plays such a crucial role, as we provide a basic need, CLOTHING! I pay out of my own pocket, to hire someone through Americorp. AMERICORP and the individual hired from AMERICORP can support our mission on a level that a regular off the street hire simply cannot. This loss is detrimental to our mission.

Within minutes of reading the message from AMERICORP, I received another message from Leanna Wells, a news reporter with WTAJ . She asked if she could interview me about the work the Cambria County Clothing Boutique is doing in local schools. I gave her full disclosure, our building is an ABSOLUTE MESS and so was I over the termination of AMERICORP. I told her I would need extra editing, as I can't even answer basic questions at this time. She laughed and said it will be fine. Leanna then asked if we could have access to 1 of the school closets that is maintained by CCCB. I told her I would try to get access, but what was her timeline for all this? She wanted to interview me at the building Tuesday, April 29th at 10 am, the to the school for some shots and interviews! Our building is in a state of perpetual mess. Its slowly undergoing a reno, donations are in a state of sorting and organizing , and she wants to get footage inside , less than 24 hours away?

Fast forward, my BFF Racquel came down and helped make it presentable. Ms. Wells took video and interviewed at 705 Chestnut Street and Ferndale High School. I know she worked some serious magic to hit all those points in just a minutes! Check it out for yourself!
